Bahamas
Nassau Rowing Club
Summary of Program:
The Nassau Rowing Club is the first rowing club in The Bahamas and the largest in the English-speaking Caribbean. Established in 2012 to develop the premier competitive rowing program in The Bahamas for rowers of all experience, age, and fitness levels, the diverse membership of over 40 Bahamian citizens and residents ranges from ages 11 to 72. The club’s athletic achievements include producing the first crew to ever represent The Bahamas in international competition, as well as the Bahamas’ first Olympic rower.
Its major accomplishments in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to date have been achieving a majority black and majority female membership mix.
The Opportunities & Access Rowing Squad (OARS) was launched in 2017 to actively recruit and retain students at Bahamian public high schools at no cost to themselves or their families, lowering barriers to access and participation in rowing. Following Hurricane Dorian in 2019, this criteria was expanded to include survivors who had relocated from the severely hit islands of Abaco and Grand Bahama. OARS members are taught to swim, are provided with free donated rowing clothing, and train with other junior rowers from across the island. We are proud to do our part to show that we are one people, one Bahamas.

RTHC Bayer Leverkusen
Summary of Program:
Since a few years the Rowing Section of our sports club RTHC Bayer Leverkusen has engaged in developing rowing with disabled persons in the area of Cologne and Leverkusen. Based on this engagement the Regional Sports Association of North-Rhine Westfalia (Western Germany) has just recently granted to our facilities in Cologne and Leverkusen the qualification of a “Regional Training Hub for Para Rowing“ (see the official award enclosed). Our sports club leads the activities of this newly created Regional Training Hub. Starting with currently four Para Rowers, three of them competing on international level, we expect a significant pull effect on physically disabled persons who want to compete in sports and would like to learn more about rowing. All training activities are fully integrated with our team of non-disabled rowers, sometimes forming mixed teams and coached by the same coaches. Obviously this developing new activity increases the demand for rowing boats in our club. With the Rowing Blazers Initiative of Wintech there is a great opportunity to support us in further building up our Regional Training Hub. It seems that the 1x E 21 and E 24 will perfectly fit with the needs of PR 3 rowers due to their higher stability. We thus highly appreciate the opportunity to be named in the Rowing Blazers Initiative.
Netherlands
KNRB
Orca RC
Triton RC
Summary of Program:
Rowing can be categorized as a team sport where trust is invaluable. A sport for which you need a great sense of intuition and mental discipline to harmonise with your team. With such support in a rowing boat, why shouldn’t everyone be able to experience the sport? The Utrecht Students Rowing Association has therefore started a unique program, Rowing Blind, meant to make rowing accessible to everyone. The program gives visually impaired people the chance to experience what this sport has to offer.
Together with an experienced rower (known as a rowing buddy), visually impaired rowers start their adventure on the water with personal training in order to fully participate. Rowing Blind aims to empower individuals with a sense of independence and freedom, coupled with social interaction and security, to demonstrate the possibilities of sport for everyone.
Puerto Rico
RemoPUR
Website: www.threeriversrowing.org
Summary of Program:
RemoPUR is the only rowing program in Puerto Rico focused on providing accessibility to the sport on the island. RemoPUR was established in 2016 to teach rowing free of charge to newcomers to the sport of all backgrounds, ages and beliefs. Established members (those who have spent more than one year rowing) are exempt from paying any membership fee by volunteering at the club.
This has helped create a diverse club of members of different backgrounds, a true representation of Puerto Rico’s diverse demographic. In 2017, right before Hurricane Maria, RemoPUR ran an athlete identification camp with over 200 athletes from all parts of the island. Unfortunately, the hurricane caused many of the athletes to move away from the island and damaged most of the club’s equipment. In the wake of the hurricane, the club and its members helped provide relief to the hardest hit parts of the island.RemoPUR is rebuilding stronger and is very proud to send its very first member to the Olympics, Veronica Toro, who will become the first woman to represent Puerto Rico in the sport of rowing. A majority of RemoPUR’s rowers are women, which promotes more female representation in the sport. An explorer would help our free learn-to-row program and get more potential Olympians on the water.
